CHS Rowing senior captain Ethan Pirigyi '26 has been invited to the United States Under-19 National Team Selection Camp this summer.

Pirigyi is one of 26 athletes headed to the camp, hosted by USRowing in Chula Vista, California from June 22-July 31.

Those at the camp at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center will compete for a spot on the team that will represent the United States at the World Rowing U19 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from Aug. 1-9.

Pirigyi, of Buffalo, is a three-year member of the CHS Senior Eight who was part of 2025 Scholastic National and Canadian National Championships in the Eight, both firsts for the CHS program.

He has also won three state championships, additional Canadian National titles, numerous races at the Canadian Henley Regatta, and was unanimously voted captain of the team by his peers. Pirigyi is also second all-time for 2k erg score at Canisius.

Pirigyi will attend and row for Brown University in the fall.

"Ethan is among the highest caliber student-athlete I have ever worked with and one of the finest athletes, not just rowers, ever produced at Canisius High School," said CHS Rowing Coach Jacob Filby '14.

"Where we are programmatically – competing for major varsity national championships for the past three years – does not happen without Ethan and his teammates, all of whom he helps bring along and they collectively have raised the standard for what it means to be on the rowing team.

"The team and I could not be more proud of him and we are aiming to finish this season together with an effort that he can be proud to finish his high school career with before embarking on the next step. I am eager to watch him earn a spot and represent the United States on the world stage."

Last summer, Isaiah Aljuwani '25 of Kenmore and Liam Feeney '25 of West Seneca – also part of last year's national championship eight – were both selected for the U.S. National Team Under-19 National Team Selection Camp and went on to represent the U.S. at the world championships in Trakai, Lithuania.
