CHS Football wanted another shot at St. Francis in a championship game, and it has it after a historic victory in the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association semifinals.
Most expected a repeat of the Monsignor Martin heavyweight battle in the final, and CHS earned it with a clinical 42-0 victory over St. Joe's Saturday on Koessler Field at the Stranksy Athletic Complex.
The victory in the 100th edition of the rivalry put CHS ahead in the all-time series for the first time since 1986.
The Crusaders will play at St. Francis for the Monsignor Martin championship at 7 p.m. Friday. Presale admission is $10 via chsaany.org/tickets – tickets at the door will be $15.
The winner will play for the Catholic state championship at a time and downstate location to be determined.
Saturday's dominating performance gives CHS the lead in the all-time series at 49-48-3. The series began in 1921.
Canisius has won nine straight and 19 of the teams' last 20 meetings. Five of the last eight CHS wins have come by shutout — including in playoff victories the last two years.
