Cercone '23 becomes basketball's all-time leading scorer

Dunks his way to top spot with 32 points in win at Park

2/17/2023 3:00:00 PM

Shane Cercone '23 is the new all-time leading scorer for CHS Basketball.

The Buffalo senior now has 1,680 career points and passed the previous CHS record held by Brian Keenan '99 on a fourth-quarter steal-and-dunk in a 69-42 win at Park. He finished with 32 points.

Cercone had 156 points as an eighth-grader for Tapestry Charter and now has 1,524 in his four-year varsity career at CHS.

Brian Keenan, whose career total of 1,661 included 139 at Grand Island, had topped the CHS list at 1,522.

Cercone surpassed both totals in Thursday night's game. See the CHS all-time scoring list below.

The Crusaders have earned two byes in the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association playoffs; they will next play in Thursday's Manhattan Cup semifinals.

In the video below, hear from Cercone and coach Kyle Husband '96 after PA man extraordinaire Bryce Hopkins '08 made it a special moment as the game was halted for a brief ceremony. Our thanks to Park for helping this moment happen.
