After five straight quarters of impressive football, and five more touchdowns from
Elijah Kimble '27, Canisius is on top of the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association.
Â
The Crusaders picked up where they left off after a clinical fourth-quarter against St. Joe's, delivering a high-octane, big-play performance against St. Francis in a 55-34 victory that gave CHS its first win over the Red Raiders since the 2020-21 season. Â
Â
"It's been a long climb – we knew that, and our kids came to play from the get-go today," said CHS coach Kraig Kurzanski '84. "They were focused up. We got a little sloppy late, but we made all the big plays in the game." Â
Â
Elijah Kimble '27 scored two of his touchdowns in a first half that saw Canisius take a 21-13 lead.
Jahyden Clark '25 also scored on a reverse run in the second quarter.
Â
Kimble added three scores in the third quarter as CHS went up 42-21.
Amir Hernandez '26 added a kickoff return for a touchdown after one of St. Francis' fourth-quarter touchdowns and Darnell Gallimore '26 scored on an interception return in the final minutes.
Â
With one league game remaining (next week at Bishop Timon-St. Jude on Friday night), Canisius is atop the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association with a 2-0 record after consecutive wins over St. Joe's and St. Francis.
Â
Canisius and St. Francis have met in the Monsignor Martin championship game for the last six years, with St. Francis winning the last three, including a 21-20 victory last year. Â
