Make it 13 straight years of honoring Coach Keenan with a high-quality tournament title.
Â
CHS Basketball defeated Cathedral Prep, 74-52, in Saturday afternoon's championship game of our annual Tom Keenan Memorial Tournament, named after the former Crusaders coach who passed away in 2003 and who coach
Kyle Husband '96 played for.
Â
Kathy Keenan, Tom's wife, presented the team championship and MVP trophies after the Crusaders' 13th straight title at the Keenan tournament, which annually features high-caliber competition from Western New York and beyond.
Â
Canisius (3-0) won for the 13th straight year behind its trademark defense and 20 points from Nick Purdie '25 and 15 each from
Patrick Enright '25 and
Jahyden Clark '25. It was the first loss for Erie, Pennsylvania power Cathedral Prep.
Â
Patrick Cullinan '25 earned MVP honors; he had 10 points on Saturday after a 33-point performance in Friday's first-round win over Jamestown at the Bernard J. Kennedy '49 Field House.
Â
In his 10 seasons as CHS coach, Keenan won three Manhattan Cup titles as the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association champion (1996, 1997, 1998). Keenan, who was also Dean of Students, coached his final three seasons while battling cancer.
