There were plenty of smiles during the home and league opener for CHS Lacrosse on Tuesday as the Crusaders dominated Bishop Timon-St. Jude, 17-3, on Koessler Field at the Stransky Memorial Complex.
Â
The victory puts Canisius atop the season's earliest edition of the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association standings along with Nichols, which also opened its league schedule on Tuesday as it defeated St. Joe's.
Â
Two freshmen combined for nine goals for the Crusaders, who seized control of the game with an 9-2 first half.
Â
Leading the way offensively were
JT Macaluso '27 of Elma (five goals, two assists),
John Dunn '27 of Buffalo (four goals),
Mikey LaCivita '24 of Amherst (four goals, four assists) and
Seamus Hillery '24 of East Amherst (goal, five assists).
Â
The sturdy Canisius defense caused 11 turnovers behind strong performances by
Aaron Eberhard '24 of Buffalo,
Ivan Roeder '24 of Orchard Park,
Colton Schoenberger '24 of Williamsville,
Hunter Jantzi '24 of Orchard Park,
Daniel Sugg '25 of Lancaster,

Â
The Crusaders, coached by Jeff White '09, are 2-2 overall after opening the season against three Pennsylvania teams. Next up is Thursday's matchup at St. Francis.
Â
That game is followed by four straight home games in the busy early season: Aquinas (Saturday, 1 p.m.), St. Joe's (Tuesday, 4:30 p.m.), St. Mary's (April 18, 4:30 p.m.) and Rochester power and Jesuit brethren McQuaid Jesuit (April 20, 4:30 p.m.)
