Canisius had a tremendous Sunday at the New York State Catholic High School Athletic Association championships, highlighted by Peter Peyser '25 winning two state titles and being a part of two school records.

Peyser, of Buffalo, won the 50-yard freestyle in 20.80, which lowered his own school record, and the 100 freestyle (45.63) at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, Long Island.

Peyser was also part of the 200 medley relay which broke a 14-year-old school record in finishing in third place.

Gabe Russel-Webster '27 of Amherst, Peyser, Atticus Young '26 of Buffalo and Joe Skoumpris '25 of Williamsville finished in 1:35.30, besting the 2011 record of 1:36.36 set by Garrett Graesser '11, Christian Westermeier '13, Kyle Smith '11 and Andrew Monte '11. Russel-Webster began with the backstroke, Peyser with the breaststroke, Young with the butterfly and Skoumpris in the freestyle.

Winning the Catholic championships in the 50 and 100 free earned Peyser a trip to the overall New York State Federation championships in both events on March 7-8 at Ithaca College.

Peyser was also part of the 200 freestyle relay which took second in 1:26.56, 1.03 seconds behind Fordham Prep. The relay team was Russel-Webster, Young, Skoumpris and Peyser.

Young was also third in the 200 individual medley (1:56.09) and fifth in the 100 breast (58.45).

Russel-Webster was third in the 100 backstroke (54.72) and eighth in the 100 free (47.95).

Duke Neal '28 of Youngstown took seventh in the 500 free (5:01.56).

The 400 free relay of Andre Charlier '27 of the Town of Tonawanda, Mason Pettit '25 of Buffalo, Jonathan Burroughs '26 of East Amherst and Neal took eighth in 3:36.62.

Canisius' team points put them fifth among 19 teams, most of which were from the greater New York City area.
