There is a new all-time touchdown leader for CHS Football, and he is just past the halfway mark of his high school career.
Â
Elijah Kimble '27 scored two touchdowns in Canisius' 55-21 loss at Ohio superpower Ironton on Saturday, giving him 58 total touchdowns in his career, surpassing the record of 57 previously held by Quadree Ollison '14.
Â
Kimble is also less than 200 yards from the all-time CHS rushing record of 4,147, also set by Ollison.
Â
Kimble scored both of his touchdowns in a first half won by defending Ohio state champion Ironton (4-0) by a score of 35-14. Last year the Fighting Tigers beat visiting St. Francis, 56-19.Â
Â
Canisius (1-1) plays at another top-flight Ohio program this week.
Â
Following last week's trip to Ironton, which is ranked 19th in Ohio by MaxPreps, the Crusaders take on fellow Jesuit school Walsh Jesuit of the Cleveland area. Walsh Jesuit, is ranked 10th in Ohio and, like Ironton, is also undefeated (4-0).
Â
Canisius (1-1), ranked 14th in New York, will face the Warriors at Walsh Jesuit's All Sports Complex in Cuyahoga Falls at 7 p.m. Friday night. It is the homecoming game for Walsh Jesuit, which plays in Ohio's Division II, the second-largest of seven divisions.
 Â
After running for 85 yards on 29 carries at Ironton, Kimble is 148 yards from the all-time CHS rushing record of 4,147, also held by Qadree Ollison '14.
Â
Walsh Jesuit owns wins at Central Catholic (17-14), at Springfield (30-6), vs. Clarkson North of Arkansas (30-6) and at rival St. Ignatius (31-0).
Â
The Warriors are 4-3 against CHS all-time, winning the last two matchups recently (41-14 in 2023 and 48-6 in 2022). The teams played seven straight times from 2008 to 2014, with Canisius going 4-1 in the last five matchups of that run.
Â
The Crusaders opened the season with a 41-28 win over visiting Scranton Prep (Pa.) on our new turf on Koessler Field at the Stransky Memorial Complex.Â
  Â
Canisius' next home game will be at 2 p.m. Sat. Sept. 27 against St. Joe's – Canisius has won 11 straight and 21 out of the last 22 rivalry games, including last year's MMAA title game.
