A NEW ALL-TIME RUSHER and ANOTHER WIN over St. Joe's: Eli Kimble '27 broke the CHS all-time rushing record on a 73-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, part of a 45-28 victory over St. Joe's.
Canisius has now won 12 straight and 22 out of the last 23 rivalry games.
Kimble ran for 254 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries while
Amir Hernandez '27 ran for four touchdowns before a standing-room-only crowd of thousands at Koessler Field at the Stransky Memorial Athletic Complex.
CHS built a 25-7 halftime lead, went up 32-7 in the third quarter and 45-21 in the fourth.
Kimble now has 4,283 career yards after surpassing the record of Qadree Ollison '14, who had 4,147 from 2010-2013. Kimble now stands 21st all-time on the Western New York career list (topped by Jehuu Caulcrick of Clymer with 6,559 from 1999-2002). Two weeks ago, Kimble broke Ollison's CHS career touchdown record.
By winning Game 103 of the rivalry, Canisius now owns a 52-48-3 advantage in the series, which began in 1921.
"The difference about being a champion is … not just beating St. Joe's," coach Kraig Kurzanski '84 said to his team afterwards. "We want to get better every … day … so we can win a state championship."
Canisius (2-2) won the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association opener against St. Joe's (2-2) in a matchup that pitted two highly-ranked WNY teams. CHS hosts Bishop Timon-St. Jude next week while St. Francis is at St. Joe's.
