Make it 24!
CHS Swimming dominated the All-Catholic Championships Wednesday night as it won its 24th straight Monsignor Martin Athletic Association title.
Atticus Young '26 of Buffalo had four wins while
Gabe Russell-Webster '27 of Amherst and
Andre Charlier '27 of the Town of Tonawanda each had three as Canisius won eight of the 11 events at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo.
The Crusaders won all three relays, swept the top four in one event (100-yard backstroke) and had 1-2 finishes in three other races.
Canisius amassed 224 points, a total that was 95 ahead of St. Joe's.
Young won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke while Russell-Webster took the 200 IM and Charlier won the 100 butterfly.
Young and Russell-Webster were joined by
Luca Alessi '29 of Clarence on the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. Charlier was on the 200 medley and 400 free relay.
Jonathan Burroughs '26 of East Amherst won the 100 freestyle.
Duke Neal '28 of Youngstown was on the winning 200 free relay and 400 free relay and took second in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.
The other members of the 400 free relay were
Luca Rugnetta '29 of Colden and
Thaddeus Young '28 of Buffalo.
Burroughs was second to
Atticus Young in the 200 free. Rounding out the top four behind
Atticus Young in the backstroke were Alessi,
Thaddeus Young and Charlier. Alessi was second to Charlier in the 100 fly while
Thaddeus Young was second in the 50 free.
Russell-Webster was third in the 100 breast while Nate Jank '27 of Williamsville was third in the 500 free. In the 100 free, Canisius took third through sixth:
Chase Dobe '29 of Tonawanda,
Jeffrey Hoffman '28 of Buffalo,
Lucas Nyo '29 of Buffalo and
Clark Estrada '26 of Williamsville.
Prior to the meet, seniors from all teams were honored, including Cansiius'
Atticus Young, Burroughs, Estrada and
Brady Mummey '26.
The next stop for CHS Swimming is the Catholic High School Athletic Association Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, Long Island, on Feb. 7-8.
Winners at that meet will advance to the overall New York State Federation Championships March 6-7 at Ithaca College.
