What. a. night.
Here are some lasting images of an outstanding rivalry win for CHS Basketball, 54-53, over St. Joe's Tuesday night before more than 1,200 inside an electric Bernard J. Kennedy '49 Field House.Â
Jack Cullinan '27 of Orchard Park swished a baseline jumper at the buzzer to give Canisius a thrilling win and send shockwaves through an arena that featured great support all evening from the @1180bluecrew and @nardincanisiuscheer.Â
Canisius (16-6) controlled much of the first three quarters and took a 10-point advantage in the second half – which featured a stunning dunk by
Elijah Jones '27 of Buffalo off a Cullinan pass – before losing the lead in the final minute.Â
The fantastic finish was strikingly similar to last year's home win over St. Joe's, when Nick Purdie '25 hit a three-pointer at the buzzer in the same corner of the same side of the court.Â
CHS is firmly in first place in the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association at 11-1 and is in position to clinch the regular season championship. St. Joe's is 16-6, 10-3.
Canisius has two games remaining, at Bishop Timon-St. Jude at 7 p.m. Friday (broadcast on radio and TV by @btpmlocalsports) and at St. Mary's next Tuesday, Feb. 17.Â
The MMAA playoffs begin with prequarterfinals Feb. 22; the Manhattan Cup semifinals (Sat. Feb. 28) and championship (Tue. March 3) are at Canisius University.Â
