Make that two big league wins in less than 24 hours for CHS Basketball.
The Crusaders displayed more excellent defense, more balanced scoring and big plays when it was needed most in a 64-54 Monsignor Martin Athletic Association victory over St. Mary's Saturday afternoon at Bernard J. Kennedy '49 Field House.
Canisius beat Nichols, 64-48, on Senior Night Friday night in a top five showdown that ended at about 8 p.m. The top 10 matchup with St. Mary's, which marked the first time the teams' met this year due to a snowed-out game, began at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Canisius led for most of the first half before the game tightened up in the second, with the teams exchanging the lead in the third quarter. The Crusaders (15-6, 10-1) executed on both ends in the fourth to stay a step ahead of the Lancers (14-6, 7-4).
Elijah Jones '27 of Buffalo scored 22 points, Christian Gill '27 of Buffalo had 15 and TJ Askew '26 of Buffalo had 14 while CHS totaled nine three-pointers.

Logan Feeney '27 of West Seneca had a 13 points, Jack Cullinan '27 of Orchard Park had 12 and Askew and Elijah Jones '27 of Buffalo each added 10 for Canisius, which completed a season sweep of Nichols (16-4, 8-3).
Canisius, winners of seven straight league games, are in first place with another major showdown coming up Tuesday.
The Crusaders host St. Joe's in a tripleheader that will be capped off by the 7 p.m. varsity game. The freshman game tips off at 4 p.m., followed by JV at 5:30.
Tickets for the tripleheader are $5 and are on sale at the CHS front reception desk on school days from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
