Basketball gameday updates: No. 1 Canisius hosts No. 5 St. Joe's

There will be no general admission ticket sales for Wednesday's Monsignor Martin Association basketball game as No. 1 large school Canisius hosts No. 5 St. Joe's at the Bernard J. Kennedy Field House.

Tickets have been distributed to each school for Wednesday's matchup. Tickets are good for the 5 p.m. JV game and 6:30 p.m. varsity contest.

Only those with tickets will be permitted entry, and payment for the tickets will be collected at the door. All in attendance are required to wear face coverings.

Only the JV and Varsity games will be played on Wednesday; the Freshmen game has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Jan. 27.

These schedule and gameday protocol changes are an effort to restrict the number in attendance and are being made due to the rise in cases of COVID-19 locally.

The varsity game will be broadcast by WNY Athletics while the JV and varsity games will also be streamed at Canisius High School's YouTube channel.

Canisius (6-3) maintained its spot atop The Buffalo News large school poll on Monday. It has won two straight after a fourth-place finish at the St. Pius X Christmas Classic in Atlanta, beating No. 1 small school Bishop Timon-St. Jude at home on Jan. 3 and winning at Cardinal O'Hara on Jan. 5.

The Marauders evened their record at 5-5 with its second straight win, a 55-51 win over No. 7 large school Health Sciences on Saturday. A Friday home win over Cardinal O'Hara ended a four-game losing streak to formidable opponents in V-McQuaid Jesuit, V-Aquinas, III-Christian Brothers Academy, Bishop Timon-St. Jude.
