Elijah Kimble '27 is the Dick Gallagher Buffalo News Player of the Year.

The award was announced at Saturday's Dick Gallagher Western New York High School Football Awards banquet presented by WNY Athletics.

Kimble ran for 1,778 yards and scored 32 touchdowns to help lead Canisius to a 9-3 record, the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association championship and The Buffalo News Large School Poll Championship.

In the embedded Instagram post, Kimble is pictured with assistant coach Paul Woods after collecting several awards Saturday: All-Western New York first team, the Roger Weiss Memorial Players Choice Award, and MVP of the Monsignor Martin championship game. The hardware for The Buffalo News Player of the Year award was unavailable and will be delivered to Kimble later.

Kimble is also pictured with WNY Athletics' Francis Boeck, who presented Kimble with the Roger Weiss Award, which is voted on by Western New York's high school football players.

Canisius was also honored for its Buffalo News poll championship on Saturday while other Crusaders honored were: All-WNY first teamers

Last month, Kimble was offered a scholarship by Mississippi of the SEC to go along with offers from Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State – his first offer came from current No. 1 Oregon midway through his freshman season. He was offered a scholarship from Maryland this week to put his total at 15.

He has also been offered scholarships by Boston College, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, University at Buffalo, Purdue, West Virginia, Marshall, Toledo and Texas-San Antonio.

As a freshman, Kimble ran for 1,821 yards and scored 21 touchdowns and earned All-WNY first-team honors.

Canisius has had the most players honored with the Player of the Year award with six. Since the inception of the Player of the Year award in 1977, The News has named two Player of the Year winners on six occasions. CHS has had four players honored in the last 13 years.
