BACK TO BACK: Soccer beats St. Joe's again for Monsignor Martin championship

FINAL IN MONSIGNOR MARTIN CHAMPIONSHIP: Canisius 2, St. Joe's 1.

For the second straight year, CHS Soccer came from behind in the second half against its rival to become the champion of the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association and celebrate with the Blue Crew student section.

Hayden Cunningham '26 of Buffalo and playoff MVP Henry Smith '26 of Buffalo scored on penalty kicks in the second half.

Canisius (15-1-1) dominated possession the entire game, but was behind 1-0 at halftime after St. Joe's converted a breakaway in the game's opening minutes.

Game Notes

  • Hayden Cunningham equalized from the penalty spot early in the second half.
  • Henry Smith converted the match-winner from the spot and was named MMHSAA Most Valuable Player of the Game.
  • The back line of Hayden Cunningham, Victory Shalamba '26, Halim Habib '26, and Elliott Manley '27 anchored a composed, connected unit.
  • Goalkeeper Octavian Santacrose '26 commanded the box and closed the match with a confident performance.
  • This victory improves Canisius to 15-1-1 and secures the 15th straight win.
  • Canisius rises nationally to #75 in the United States and #1 among Catholic programs.
