Track & field sends a dozen athletes to Catholic state championship meet in NYC

In one of the highlights of the finish to an outstanding 2024-25 season for CHS Athletics, 12 athletes qualified for the New York State Catholic High School Athletic Association championships at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island in Manhattan.

George Wiley '25 placed in the top eight in the shot put and discus while Hector Gitego '25 of Amherst ran a personal-record time of 4:52 in the 1,600 and Ethan Johnson '25 of Buffalo ran a PR of 10:55 in the 3,200.

The Canisius 4x100 and 4x400 relays achieved their best times of the season behind Thomas Tran '25 of Cheektowaga, Ethan Fronzcak '26 of Cheektowaga, Dylan McCarthy '25 of Lancaster, Nate Pantano '27 of East Amherst, Caden Walker '27 of Hamburg, Brayden Harbold '25 of Hamburg and Aidan Rivera '27 of Orchard Park.

The Canisius 4x800 relay ran close to their best time with Johnson and Gitego adding to the relay runners. Christopher Marsh '26 of Amherst competed in high jump and Michail Ahad '28 of Cheektowaga was an alternate for the sprint relays.

The deep Crusaders had a strong regular season under coach Elisabeth Rott and finished third in the All-Catholic Championships.
