Canisius posted a near-flawless day at the West Side Rowing Club's Fontana All-High Regatta, winning nine of 10 events at the annual Memorial Day event.
Fresh from winning scholastic national championships two days earlier in New Jersey, the Crusaders posted victories in the Pair, the Novice Eight, the Junior Eight, the Second Varsity Four, the Varsity Four, the Lightweight Four, the Junior Four, and the First and Second Varsity Eights. Across all events, the average margin of victory was 21 seconds.
Putting an exclamation mark on the day was the almost-all senior Eight, comprised of coxswain
Noah Rajecki,
Liam Feeney,
Isaiah Aljuwani,
Meer Renschler Pandey,
Kohler Stewart, Matt Zakrzewski,
Trevor Wierzbowski,
Thomas Skowron and junior
Ethan Pirigyi.
The All-High Regatta is named after long-time CHS coach Charlie Fontana, who led the program to national prominence in the 1960s. Nearly the entire head coaching tree for Canisius High School can be traced back to Fontana, who is also a 2007 inductee into the Canisius Athletic Hall of Fame. Medals for the crews were presented after racing by the Fontana family.
Canisius will travel to St. Catharines, Ontario this weekend to race for Canadian national titles at the CSSRA Championships from Friday, May 30 to Sunday, June 1 before finishing the season at the USRowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Florida from June 12-15.
Families interested in the decades-long winning tradition of CHS Rowing and the excellence only found in a Jesuit education at Canisius – ranked as the Buffalo area's "Best Catholic School" by Business First – can learn more by arranging an on-campus experience via
