The streak … is OVER.
CHS Lacrosse recorded a historic victory during a rainstorm in Kenmore as they came up with huge plays in the final minutes to beat St. Joe's, 16-15, for their first victory over their rival in more than a decade.
The last victory for Canisius lacrosse over St. Joe's was a 13-9 home win on April 21, 2016.
Nicholas Mete '28 of Ridgeway, Ontario scored the winning goal with 42.5 seconds left. St. Joe's won the ensuing face-off, but goalie Nick Dutrieux '26 of Lewiston made a great stop on an onrushing Marauder. CHS was able to clear the ball and run out the clock to a tremendous Crusader celebration.
Coach Pat Mete (father of Nicholas) and the Crusaders have now won seven straight. CHS is 4-1 in the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association, with its lone loss in their first 2026 meeting with St. Joe's – that marked 25 games since the last CHS rivalry win.
The Crusaders' next game is its Senior Day game at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against Nichols on Koessler Field at the Robert J. Stransky Memorial Complex.
