When CHS Volleyball takes the court this fall for the 2026 season, it will do so under the direction of head coach Dan Johnson, an accomplished volleyball leader with extensive experience in Western New York. 

Johnson is co-owner and boys club director of the Niagara Frontier Volleyball Club, an outstanding organization based in West Seneca that has cultivated the sport locally for decades. NFVC has built tremendous club teams and has helped produce individual players who have gone on to play the game at its highest levels (Division I colleges and international play). 

Johnson has coached teams and designed volleyball systems with the NFVC since 2014.

"We are extremely fortunate to have an excellent volleyball leader like Coach Johnson leading our program," said CHS Director of Athletics Jim Mauro. "His extensive work and accomplishments with the area's premier volleyball organization speak for themselves." 

"I'm excited for the opportunity to lead this program and to develop student-athletes both on and off the court," said Johnson. "Nurturing a competitive environment grounded in character, accountability, and respect – one that is aligned with the values of Canisius High School and our families – is something I truly value."

CHS Volleyball has been a part of every championship match in the history of the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association and has won 23 titles. 

Troy Gooch '18, a national champion at UCLA and professional player in Europe, is currently on the USA Volleyball National Team roster for this summer's Volleyball Nations League.
