Like Taylor Swift once said, we're feeling twenty-two! In a thrilling battle at Nardin Academy, the Crusader volleyball team defeated St. Joe's in five sets, winning the final set 15-13.

Canisius jumped out early and took the first two sets of the match by scores of 25-23 and 25-17. Despite an early lead in the third set, momentum swung to St. Joe's as they took the set 25-22. With Canisius only needing one more set to win, St. Joe's forced a decisive fifth set by capturing the fourth set 25-19.

Fans were on the edge of their seats (and many out of them) for the final frame. Canisius got a strong start, taking leads of 3-0 and 9-5. St. Joe's wasn't going to go down easily, however, as they chipped away at the Crusader lead and momentarily took a lead themselves 12-11 in that final fifth. After a Crusader timeout and rallying words from Coach Trevor Gooch, Canisius got themselves squared up. With both teams then tied at 13-13, Canisius got great plays at the net from several players, including Vincent Conroy, Matt Marusza, and Henry Weimer.

Needing only one point to close out the set and secure another league championship, Conroy served to St. Joe's, and the Marauders sent a soft volley back over the net that was played by Marusza. William Enright then set up Tommy Lynch, and with a thunderous swing from Lynch's right arm, the ball slammed into the Maruader court just inside of the line by their bench, giving Canisius the point, the set, the match, and the championship trophy!

With the win, the Crusaders have now won 22 consecutive Monsignor Martin High School Athletic Association championships Congratulations to Coach Gooch and the volleyball Crusaders!
