Canisius battled Nichols to a scoreless tie for 99 full minutes of their Monsignor Martin Athletic Association match on Wednesday.
But in a super-tight matchup that typifies the competitiveness of one of the best soccer leagues in the state, Nichols scored with just seconds to play to come away with a 1-0 double-overtime victory on Koessler Field at the Robert J. Stransky Memorial Athletic Complex.
The Crusader backfield dominated the entirety of the match.
"There is a lot to learn from a match like this," said coach Orville Roberts. "There is a lot of season left to use what we will learn."
Next up for the Crusaders is a nonleague road match under the lights on Friday, Sept. 22 against Section VI power Lancaster.
