Thanks to a near-perfect performance, Canisius Sailing took first place at the Mid-Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association's Divisional Qualifiers and earned a trip to the Virginia for this weekend's MASSA Gold Championships.
On a sunny, very breezy Sunday (Oct. 6) at the Buffalo Yacht Club, Canisius had a near-perfect set of six races by the A and B fleets to beat out a field of 10 teams for the title.Â
Canisius beat out a field that included Nichols, St. Joe's, City Honors, Southwestern and Kenmore-Tonawanda among others.
The Crusaders edged out second-place West Irondequoit Eagles by 10 points.
The A Team Skipper/Crew was
Jack Riley '25 and
David Romanowich '25.
The B Team Skipper/Crew was
Charlie Marynowski '26 and
Matt Murad '26.
The CHS alternates were
Will Emblidge '27 and
Cameron Willett '28.
The Crusaders will compete in the MASSA Gold Fleet Championships this Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 19 and 20) hosted by Youth Sailing Virginia on Mill Creek in Fort Monroe, Virginia.
