Sailing earns podium finish at MASSA Silver Fleet Championship

10/28/2025 2:17:00 PM

The Crusaders took a strong podium position in this past weekend's Mid Atlantic Scholastic Sailing Association Fall Silver Invitational on Lake Erie .

With all protests and redress settled in the day following the regatta, Canisius boys took 3rd place overall with a 6th in A-Fleet and a 2nd in B-Fleet.

After the first day of racing on Saturday out of the Buffalo Yacht Club, the boys were in fourth place following shifty breeze and a series of protests.

A strong performance from the A Fleet, sailed by Chuck Marynowski '26 and Will Emblidge '27, including a first-place finish, kept the team in podium contention.

On day two, back-to-back bullets from the B Fleet, sailed by Matt Murad '26 and Colton Davis ]27, shot the Crusaders up into 3rd place, where they held their spot.

CHS competed against teams from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland and finished well ahead of other WNY entrants from Nichols and St. Joe's.

The full roster for the regatta was: Chuck Marynowski '26 (Skipper), Matt Murad '26 (Skipper), Will Emblidge '27 (Crew), Colton Davis '27 (Crew), Corban Burke '27 (Crew) and Jacob Barney '27 (Crew).

Any student interested in joining the Canisius High School Sailing Team, with or without prior sailing experience, can email Matt Murad '26 at mattmurad24@gmail.com.

The team issued a huge thank you to all who made this regatta possible.

Next up, the Crusaders head downstate to compete this weekend at the MASSA Keelboat Qualifier on Long Island Sound out of Larchmont, New York. The Crusaders were the only local school to qualify, doing so by beating St. Joe's in all four races.
