Hall of Fame
Bill followed the family tradition and entered Canisius in 1961. He immediately racking up honors, academic, athletic and popular. During his freshman year, he was voted president of his class and was recognized as a leader on the track & field, JV football and basketball teams. By his sophomore year, his size and talent earned him an early spot on the varsity football team where he played both ways for Coach Barnes. That year he won uncommon honors for sophomore, including being named the Msgr. Martin Catholic League, Bishop Burke Division, and to the All-Catholic Team by the Buffalo News. In spite of a leg injury in his junior year, Bill was again named to the Msgr. Martin Catholic League, 2nd Team by the Buffalo News and received Honorable Mention by the Courier Express. In his senior year, he was selected by the team to be captain. Though he suffered a leg injury, he healed and the Buffalo News labeled him "Comeback Player of the Year." And come back, he id. He was named to the All-Catholic squad by both papers and was chosen by the Courier Express to their first team All-WNY All-Star Team. He was also a New World All-American.
Although recruited for the Fighting Irish by Ara Parseghian, Bill elected to play out his passion for the game at Xavier University.
