Tim Barret was an exceptional athlete with the ability to excel at multiple sports both at Canisius and at John Carroll. He was able to achieve All-Catholic status in three sports, football, swimming and track. On the gridiron Tim was an All-Catholic both his junior and senior years and All-WNY his senior season. In the pool Tim set numerous school, pool and All-Catholic records including 400 yard free, the 100 yard free and the 50 yard free. 

In college Tim was a four year varsity letterman earning All-Conference and MVP honors as a running back his sophomore, junior and senior years. He tied an NCAA record with three 1,000 yard seasons and led the nation in rushing in the college division his senior year. He set many records including the school and conference record for rushing yards in a single game and a single season (142.7 per game). He was the Cleveland Touchdown Club player of the year. He holds the conference record for most touchdowns in a game and was voted both a Kodak and AP All-American. He was drafted as a running back by the Cleveland Browns in 1975. John Carroll since retired his number 41. Tim graduated from John Carroll with a Bachelor of Science.
