While at Canisius High School, Bill was an All-Catholic Cross Country member in 1967. He was Co-Captain of the Track team in 1966, 1967 and 1968.

After Canisius, Bill ran for LeMoyne college where he was Captain of Cross Country in 1970 and 1971 and Captain of Track team in 1971. Also in 1970 while at LeMoyne, Nill went on to Syracuse University for his MBA.
