Michael Barney was a three-year member of the varsity football team and standout guard on the 1976 abd 1977 Monsignor Martin Athletic Association championship teams. As a senior, he was a unanimous All-Catholic selection who was named to both the Courier-Express and Buffalo News teams. The Courier-Express also named him to its All-Western New York team. Barney was also a two-year starter on the varsity basketball team. As a junior, he helped the team to a playoff birth, and as a senior, he was a co-captain of the final team coached by CHS legend Connie Mack. While Barney now enters the Hall for his individual accomplishments, he was previously inducted in 2013 as a member of "The Streak" varsity football teams that went undefeated between 1972 and 1977. Barney was also the Class of 1978 valedictorian.
