Hall of Fame
A hard-running halfback on Johnny Barnes' outstanding football teams of the early '40s, Dick Dobmeier played an important role in defeating the perennially strong Aquinas and Cathedral Prep teams of Erie, Pennsylvania. He demonstrated the same talent as a star on the Canisius High School hocke teams that took to the ice in Memorial Auditorium.
Dick later played on the strong postwar grid teams as a student of Niagara University.
After graduation, he served as a first lieutenant during the Korean War.
For 43 years, Dick was a statistician and spotter for sportscaster Van Miller at Buffalo Bills radio. In addiction to the Bills, Dick assisted Miller in broadcasts of the Buffalo Braves, Buffalo Bisons, the Buffalo Stallions and various college basketball games. Along with his career in broadcasting, Dick had a long career with Dobmeier Lift Trucks.Â
Dick and his wife Genevieve lost a son to childhood cancer; survived by six daughters, 17Â grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.Â
