Tall and wiry, John Ruffino established a reputation on the basketball court as a tenacious competitor and deadly long-range shooter, averaging 23 points a game his senior year. He earned All-Catholic recognition and was chosen as the Crusaders' Most Valuable Player. 

He went on to play varsity basketball at the University at Buffalo, where he earned a degree in business management.
