Canisius High School has a long and storied championship rowing program. This was never more evident than the early 1960s. The CHS crew, coached by the late Charlie Fontana, burst onto the national high school rowing scene by winning the 1st of 5 national championships over a 5 year period. Seven of members of those outstanding crews won 2 national championships, and one, Bill Fenzel won three.Â
