Hall of Fame
Ace Ellis' quiet, reserved demeanor belied the competitive nature of this South Buffalo athlete and scholar. He was an outstanding pitcher on the Canisius varsity and American Legion baseball teams of the early 1940s.Â
On the basketball court, he was a star among stars on the Canisius quintets that battled St. Joe's when the historic rivalry resumed after a long lapse in competition between the two schools.Â
Ace went on to a successful career as a teacher and became the first basketball coach of Bishop Timon High School.Â
