Outstanding center and linebacker on powerful Crusader gridiron squads which defeated such teams as Aquinas of Rochester and Cathedral Prep of Erie. . .in senior year the team was undefeated, untied and unscored upon going into final game against East Aurora. . .acclaimed as Western New York champion after thrilling 14-13 triumph in that game. . .had several scholarship offers from Division I schools, ultimately enrolling at the University of Detroit where he started at end in his freshman year. . .when Canisius College reinstated its football program after World War II, Marty transferred there and was the starting center and linebacker for the Golden Griffins for the next 3 years. . .selected to All-Western New York and All-East teams. . .drafted by the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions, but played for the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL. . .inducted into the Canisius College Hall of Fame in 1990.
