Starting guard for three seasons on Crusader championship grid teams in the late 40's. . .starred in first two victories over St. Joe's after 17-year lapse in the rivalry. . .played at Bowling Green University for two years before transferring to UB. . .began coaching junior varsity football at CHS in the fall of 1952 and, except for 3-year army duty in Germany where he also played football, he continued in that capacity until 1973. . .assisted Bus Werder as varsity coach for the next three years and assumed the head coaching reins after Bus retired. . .during his nine years as varsity coach his Crusader teams were league champions and conquerors of St. Joe's.
