The 1983 hockey team was the first to team to complete the Monsignor Martin regular season campaign undefeated. Led by captain Matt Phillips and assistant captains Paul Gorski and Ken Crosta, the "Wreaking Crew" outscored their opponents 124 to 29. The season was not without its share of dramatic moments – with the regular season title on the line, Keith Gibbons scored with 3:20 left in the third period to tie St. Joes 3-3 and preserve the unblemished record. In the playoff championship, Doug Winkler scored with 1:14 left in regulation to give the Crusaders a 5-4 victory over St. Joes and the St. Bonaventure Cup.
