Michael was the captain of the crusader wrestling team. He was on the varsity team for his entire four years at Canisius. Mike was All-Catholic Runner up in 1986-67 and All-Catholic Champion in1988. In 1988 he was selected as Monsignor Martin Most Outstanding Wrestler. In 1988, the Crusaders won the Catholic League State Championship under Michael's leadership. He was voted Canisius High School Athlete of the Year and Scholar Athlete of the Year.
