The 1972-73 Canisius High School hockey team was the first to represent Canisius after a lapse of 20 years. Under the patient guidance of Coach Jeff Gemmer, the team started from scratch. Forced to practice at ungodly hours and in rinks all over Western New York, the young and eager Crusaders, clad in their orange sweaters, quickly became a successful, cohesive unit. They took on all comers, including collegiate teams, compiling an amazing record of 21 wins and only 2 losses.Â
Today's Canisius hockey teams and their predecessors owe a great debt of gratitude to the pioneering skaters we honor on this team.Â
