One of the Canisius High's most versatile athletes, Carl was an All-Catholic Halfback in his senior year, spearheading the championship efforts of Johnny Barnes last Crusader football team. A backcourt star in basketball, a slick infielder in baseball and also applied his considerable athletic talent to the Crusader track and field team. Â Frequently and justifiably, Carl was described as "Mr. Hustle."
Jim went on and played football and rugby at Lehigh University where he earned academic honors.Â
After graduating from Lehigh, Carl became a highly successful business that was appointed as president of Emerling Ford in Springville and Emerling Chevrolet in Boston, NY. He also became active in the real estate business and related businesses.Â
