1994 Varsity Baseball
The first of the four Georgetown Cup Championship Teams finished with a league record of 15-3. They defeated St. Francis 4-0 at Pilot Field in the Pilot Field in the Georgetown Cup Final. In the championship game, John Restivo drove in Nate Rewers in the first to get the Crusaders on the board. Matt Carver hit a two run home run in the third inning and Dave Birkmier knocked in Dale Tarapacki in the fourth to finish off the scoring. John Christ pitched a seven-inning shut out. For the season John Restivo led the team in hitting (.516), runs (29), and RBIs (23). Paul Polumbo contributed three home runs and John Christ, Matt Carver and John Heffron went a combined 13-2 on the mound.
1995 Varsity Baseball
Th Crusaders finished the 1995 season with a record of 17-1. Arguably one of the most talented 1-9 hitting lineups in CHS history the team had six 1st Team All-Cathlics and three 2nd Team All-Catholics. The team had the top two offensive players, Nate Rewers (.567) and John Christ (.537), four of the top five, Jim Lilley (.486) and Matt Nowak (.482) and six of the top nine, Keith Erazmus (.458) and Ron Parsons (.442), offensive leaders in the league. The top three pitchers, John Christ (7-0), John Heffron (5-0) and Eric Finkowski (3-0) were a combined 15-0 and they allowed 18 runs, 16 earned, in 90 2/3 innings in league play. Canisius beat St. Francis for the second straight year in the Georgetown Cup final, besting the Red Raiders 8-0 behind a John Christ and John Heffron combined shut out. The offense was led by Matt Nowak (4-4, 2B, 2 RBI and R) and Jim Lilley (2-4, 2B, 3B, RBI and 3R).
1996 Varsity Baseball
Canisius secured their third consecutive Georgetown Cup by defeating Timon 6-1 at Pilot Field. The team finished 14-6 overall, 12-6 in league play, anc were ledon offense by team MVP Mark Leyland (.419, 9 2B, 2 3B, and 26 RBI) and Jim Lilley (.434, 4 2B, and 14 RBI). The pitching staff was led by Andy McGowan, Rob Aszkler and Chris Krakowski with the support of Brian Degnan in relief. In the Georgetown Cup final Jim Lilley (3-3, 3R) and co-captain ron Parsons (2-3, 1R, 3 RBI) led the offense and Chris Krakowski shut down the Tigers from the mound.
1997 Varsity BaseballÂ
The 1997 Georgetown Cup team is best know for their dramatic come from behind victory in the seventh inning to overtake the Timon Tigers and secure their unprecedented fourth consecutive championship. Trailing 6-1 going into the seventh inning the Crusaders exploded for eight runs and closed out a shocked Timon team in the bottom of the inning. The team finished with a 14-4 record in league and 20-4 overall. The Crusaders were ranked 3rd in the final WNY poll and #15 in New York State. Senior Keith Erazmus, 2nd Team All-WNY led the way for offensively and Nick Paolino was 5-0 from the mound.
